“On June 17, I attended the workshop titled, “Financial Wellness and Success for Black Women” presented by Starlett Moore Matthews.

It was my original intention to attend a different workshop, but I couldn’t find its location, so I just entered this workshop because the door was open. It has only been two months, but the information I received there and in the workshops that followed online, has changed my life for the better.  My financial situation was such that I had no clue as to where to start to fix it.

Ms. Moore gave assignments, and they weren’t easy, however, my eyes began to open to the possibility that things could change for me, and oh, how they have changed!  Writing my financial situation on paper helped me to see exactly where I stood, where the bulk of expenditures were, and how adjusting and rearranging some things would alleviate the pressure I was under.

She gave scriptures for us to memorize, and I focused on Proverbs 18:6 that says, “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.” Following the strategies she presented, I am now not only able to breathe, but I have started my own business using the gifts that God has given me. Knowing that sharing my gifts is not only putting extra cash in my pocket, and lives are also being changed at the same time, is more than I could have asked for.”

“I found Starlett on Meetup app after praying for someone to guide me through retirement plan and saving for my son’s college.  I know I am behind my game but she gave me hope I can catch up.

I am a single mom I haven’t gotten child support since my son turned 2 and even before that my ex-husband wouldn’t pay child support arrears to help raise our son.  So for many years I struggled financially but I made it through then life got a little better and I was able to start saving money but I did by buying wrong products like saving account which is the closest you can get to 0% for your money to grow.  Not knowing how to invest it made me lose money through the years.  I heard all about stocks, bonds, mutual funds and so on before.  Scary words when you don’t know how to invest because I do know they all involve risk. I will say I don’t know how to measure it yet but I am excited to learn.  My son is going to be 13 years old this year and I thought I better figure something fast for his college funds.  I wanna know and learn everything I can on how to invest and catch up.  I wasted too much time waiting the right time to start learning this thing.  Don’t make the same mistake I made.  After looking the charts Starlett showed me I saw how much money I lost by not taking action years and years earlier.  Time is the essence literally.  I lost a ton of money and you will too if you don’t do anything or take too long to do something about it.

Day 5 I have already a better idea on how to invest for my son’s future and my retirement.  For now it is basic knowledge but it is a very good start; the balls are rolling.  I am glad Starlett is sharing her knowledge in small chunks if she didn’t I would be overwhelmed.

For now I have a blue print, a target, that I will laser focus on until I reach my target.  I know where to aim it now.  I have a direction and I will be to tell if I got off track and correct it to keep the course of my destination.

From this point on my goal is keep learning about different assets to buy and reinvest and measure risks.  Also I have the understanding that I need to avoid liabilities and increase my income with the strategies I am learning.

I feel blessed I found someone willing to walk me through this challenge. Better now than later.  Believe me on that. Don’t wait. You’ll be glad you invested the money today in financial education with Starlett.  I don’t know her very well but I can tell you this she is a kind and wise Christian lady willing to help you have a future.  In my case I believe she is part of God’s plan for my son’s future and mine as per Jeremiah 29:11

“When the invitation was sent for the Mastering Your Money 5-Day Challenge with Starlett Moore, I believe I was one of the last people to sign up.  I wondered how someone like me, living in the British Virgin Islands, could ever benefit from something that had to be tailored for persons in the United States.  I was drawn to the fact that Starlett is a Christian Woman with knowledge and experience in finance and insurance.  I was concerned about debt and a retirement scheme that I could not retire on.  On the first day of the 5-Day Challenge, I listened half-heartedly to Starlett as she spoke about her deliverables and her passionate goal of empowering 5 Million Black Christian Women to build wealth for themselves, their families, and their communities.  By the end of that first day, I had a working understanding of assets and liabilities and HOW they applied to me, how I could take what I know and make money, and that I DO NOT HAVE TO LIVE IN THE UNITED STATES to do so!

By Day 2 of the Mastering Your Money 5-Day Challenge with Starlett, I had a draft Debt Reduction Plan inclusive of paying off debt and increasing my retirement savings.  I appreciated the biblical principles and applications, and Starlett’s testimony of how she was able to overcome her mindset and behaviours about money and savings and translate that to helping women like me.  What we are taught about money from a Biblical perspective is often glossed over but Starlett tied the Word with every aspect of what we were doing. The way I looked at money, savings, and finance went from head knowledge to understanding.

“The 5-Day Black Women Challenge was eye-opening to me. Coming from a generational background of poverty, I thought I was breaking the curse. I was the 1st and currently only one to go to college, get a degree and make a decent income in my immediate family.

In the beginning of my career, I felt I was living my best life. My credit was great and I could get anything I wanted. The laws of economics taught me “The more money you make, the more money you spend” (The setup)

Well, within five years of living my best life, I found myself living from paycheck to paycheck with no real savings. I personally dug my own poverty hole with a decent income and have been trying to get above ground for years. Over the years I have stuck my head out but I am still in the process of getting my feet on level ground.

Deciding to invest in the 5- Day Black Women Challenge was one of my best investments. The fact that it teaches you how to build a solid financial foundation based on God’s Word you can’t go wrong as a believer. It honestly teaches and changes your mindset about how to obtain financial independence. I wish I had someone to teach me this earlier in my life but I am truly blessed that I know now. I currently have a plan in motion and in alignment with God’s

“Hi Starlett,

I just want to take a little time to say thank you.

Over a year ago we were having a conversation on finance. During the conversation you started to explain to me about financial planning, financial coaching, settings goal, and so much more. But the one thing I really want to thank you for is encouraging me to sit down and write out a plan. I wrote up a one year plan in September of 2020 and implemented it January 1st 2021.

Let me tell you….it works, a plan really does work. Within the first six months I was able to pay off some debts and save almost 750 dollars a month. By saving that  money I was able to fix two vehicles and got both of them back in working order. So Starlett, had I not fixed the vehicles and stuck to the plan I could have been saving over 1400 dollars a month by December of 2021.

Keep teaching, preaching, coaching and everything else it takes to get the message across. Because, I am a living witness that planning does work. And just to be honest Starlett, I was a bit hesitant about writing out the plan. At the time I was thinking ” Starlett must be crazy if she think I’m going to do this” but now I’m glad I did. If we discipline ourselves to stay the course we want have any more money issues.”
